CYO Track is by birth year. There are three age divisions, Novice, Minor and Cadet.
Younger athletes can register for the Sub Novice program that is open to Kindergarten through 3rd graders (some older 3rd grade are actually eligible to run as a Novice on the older team).
The Novice and Minor athletes can compete in three total events, and the Cadet athletes can compete in four events. All three levels are open to individual, relay and field events.
Even though spring sports can start March 1st, our practice will begin the week after Daylight Savings begins. This year it is 3/12/2023 and practice will also depend upon the weather.
All practices will be held at the Downingtown West track directly across from St Joe's. As long as the weather is okay we will practice Wednesday and Friday evenings from 5:30-7:00pm. The first week or two we usually end by 6:30 due to weather and daylight.
Sub Novice practice is on Fridays only at the same time. Sub Novice athletes can compete in the 100 200 and 800 events at the weekly meets only, and their season concludes at the Regional Meet.
Track meets are held on Sundays at Bishop Shanahan High School and the meets start at 1pm.
We will have four practice meets leading up to the Regional Meet where we begin competition. In order to move forward to Areas and Archdiocese meets you must qualify in your event. Each meet 8 individuals and 5 relay teams will advance from Regions and Areas.
Our first meet will be 3/26, and then they will be 4/02 4/09 4/23 and 4/30 at this time. Regions will be 5/07 and Areas will be 5/21 with Archdiocese Championships on 6/03/2023.
Novice players will be given a uniform top and bottom.
Subnovice players will be given a t-shirt.
Players are responsible for bringing their own shoes.
